A guide to jewellery care

Handmade jewellery is made to be worn, and a little care goes a long way in keeping it looking its best. None of this needs special products: just a few good habits.

Last on, first off

Put your jewellery on after perfume, lotion and hairspray have settled, and take it off before bathing, swimming or exercising. Water and cosmetics are the main things that dull finishes and painted colour details.

Wipe and rest

After wearing, give each piece a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Then let it rest somewhere dry, ideally in its own pouch or a lined dish, so pieces do not scratch against each other.

Store with a little space

Chains tangle when they are crowded. Lay necklaces flat or hang them, and keep earrings in pairs. A small dish by the bed or the sink is a lovely way to keep everyday pieces close without losing them.

Treat your jewellery gently and it will keep you company for years.
